No one writes to the Colonel by Gabriel Garcia Marquez

This story (64pg) is a good portrayal of the day to day routine and struggle of one of the most neglected groups in society: the poor elderly. It also makes the point of how the state neglects it's citizens, even those citizens, like the Colonel, who worked in high positions in the service of this same state. They may often promise to help the poor and the elderly, but regardless of this, and regardless of if they spent their lives working for this state, a capitalist state will always betray it's people and would rather people starve and descend into poverty in the millions rather than helping them, and thus taking some food out of their own mouths and the mouths of the well-fed and fattened rich on which a capitalist state serves in everything it possibly can. Liberation:
Clandestine in Chile by Gabriel Garcia Marquez

This relatively short (120pg) book by Colombian writer Gabriel Garcia Marquez is about Pinochet's amerikkkan installed and supported murderous regime. Clandestine in Chile is one of Marquez's non-fictional works, in this case written by Marquez after many hours of interviews with Chilean director Miguel Littín. The book describes Littin's clandestine journey back to Chile under a false identity (he was banned by Pinochet from entering his own country) to film a movie about Pinochet's bloody dictatorship and the resistance that was fighting it. It also shows how “art” can be used in the fight against capitalism and imperialism, which is obviously very important in general, and in specific because that is what this site is all about: liberating “art”, literature mainly, which is directed against capitalism and imperialism. I would like to thank comrade zuzu, the sister of a friend, for the recommendation to read this book.
