The Party of Moderate Progress within the Bounds of the Law by Jaroslav Hasek

This short (63 pg) collection of material details one of the best satires and practical jokes of the czech anarchist Jaroslav Hasek. Along with a group of his anarchist friends, he formed a party to participate in the 1911 Austro-Hungarian elections for a district in Prague called Vinohrady. Hasek of course never meant it to be a serious party, it's purpose was to mock and satirize elections and the politicians who run in them. Thus he even gave the party a satirical name, mocking the cowardice, and hypocrisy of the popular parties: The Party of Moderate Progress within the bounds of the Law.

This is another hilarious satirical sketch by Czech anarchist (later bolshevik) Jaroslav Hasek, which mocks bureaucracy and stupid state officials who can't think for themselves and instead can only follow verbatim the laws and regulations set down by their superiors. It also mocks the idocy of the modern nation-state, and it's obsession with borders, which will be crumbling soon hopefully! Enjoy comrades:

Enjoy another short satirical sketch by Czech writer Jaroslav Hasek. This sketch criticizes charitable organizations, which more often work for profit (to be used for high salaries of it's employees) and to gain positive attention for their founders. And charity in the end is no solution, it will never get rid of poverty, imperialism, racism, sexism, or homophobia, only a socialist revolution will do that. Anyway, enjoy comrades:

Sad Fate of the Station Mission by Jaroslav Hasek

This is another short satirical sketch by hilarious Czech (anarchist and later bolshevik) writer Jaroslav Hasek. This sketch mocks bourgeois moral crusading, bourgeois religious conservatism, and generally the hypocrisy of the rotten bourgeois. It mainly focuses on a topic I have spoken about before: prostitution. It is interesting to note that while the hypocritical bourgeois in this story are continually condemning "fornication" and seek to fight prostitution by invoking religion, yet they are incapable or unwilling to step down from their undeserved pedestal in society to see that females become prostitutes out of economic necessity, and that to fight for a society in which a woman does not have to sell her flesh to survive we have to eliminate poverty and class.

This is another humorous story (2 pages) from the Czech author Jaroslav Hasek which mocks government "efficiency" and how the repressive state attempts to entrap people. Enjoy!

The Official Zeal of Mr Stepan Brych (1911) by Jaroslav Hašek

This very short story or sketch is by Czech author Jaroslav Hašek (1883-1923), an active anarchist who was drafted to fight in WWI and was subsequently captured by the Russians. Later he became a supporter of the Bolsheviks and he stayed in Bolshevik Russia until 1920. Hopefully I will post several such stories or sketches by Hašek, who is most known for The Good Soldier Švejk. Hašek almost always writes in a satirical, comical vein although many of his works, like this one, do address social and political issues. This story describes a toll-collector on a certain bridge in Prague, the type of arrogant, petty official we all have had experience with. So enjoy this somewhat lighter example of socially conscious literature comrades:
